About SCMS Nagpur Library - A Learning Resource Centre

A good library is the key to growth of an educational institution. The SCMS - Nagpur, Library understands the importance in promoting lifelong learning and improving the knowledge, skills and competence of its academic community. The Library is an important resource of the Institution, supporting the students and faculty members engaged in knowledge exchange and creation within the institute. Its purpose is to support the cause of knowledge dissemination by acquiring a pool of internationally acclaimed books, journals and repositories. Connecting both students and faculty members with knowledge resources, the Library continues to adapt to the challenging new demands and provides a professional and conducive learning atmosphere for the empowerment of its users.

General Rules for SCMS Students:

  • The Library Attendants at the entrance and the counter are authorized to examine any person or material that passes into or out of the library.
  • Students are required to present theirIdentity Card and are advised not to keep any personal items in their Identity Card.
  • Students are required to record their entry & exit timing in the library register at the entrance of Library/ record their biometric attendance, as the case may be.
  • Readers are responsible for any damage caused to the reading materials or any other property of the Library, and shall be required to replace such books/property as has been damaged or injured or be required to pay the full value there of as determined by the Library Authorities.
  • Smoking, spitting, eating, and similar practices are forbidden in or near about the Library or anywhere else within the library premises. Save and except any such area which may be demarcated for the said purpose. Loud conversation is prohibited in the library.
  • CD’s or any other accompanying material available with books may be viewed/ used only in the library. Readers shall not write or mark (by underlining, putting brackets, etc.) on the reading materials or the Library. Property or furniture of the library is to be handled with utmost care.
  • Every student has to register for the library by filling library membership form. The form can be collected from the library Help Desk.
  • On registration, the student will receive a welcome email from the Library with a personal Login ID and password.
  • Personal property or books, other than those belonging to the Library must be deposited at the entrance gate. Do not leave any valuables items at the Check Point. The library is not responsible for any loss of personal belongings.
  • Students must carry their ID card while accessing the library premises and must show their ID card when asked for.
  • Wherever and whenever required the Library system generates email alerts on the registered email/mobile number, ensuring successful transactions between the library and the student/user.
  • The books must be returned on or before the due date of the return of the book. Overdue reminders will be generated by the library system on registered email ID. In case of delay in returning of books, overdue fine of Rs.5/- per day will be charged on each book. Please note that this fine will not be waived off in any case.
  • Book Bank facilities are available for first year students only.
  • Library books should be used with utmost care. Tearing or folding or cutting of Library books or making any mark on them is not permitted and shall lead to disciplinary action. Any defect noticed at the time of borrowing books must be brought to the notice of the Library staff immediately, otherwise the borrower shall be required to replace the book by a new copy or pay double the cost of the book. In case of loss of book, the student is required to pay double cost of books along with overdue fine (if any).,
  • The library has followed open access mechanism for arrangements of books on the bookshelves. Therefore, students are advised to leave the book on the table after consultation or otherwise there are chancesof misallocating the book on the shelves.
  • Library cards are non-transferable and should be kept securely by the students. The borrower shall be held fully responsible for the books issued against cards.
  • Before leaving the Library, a student should ensure whether he/she has received alter E-mail from the library system for getting the books properly issued/return if not, must report this to library staff at the Help Desk.
  • Reference Books, Journals and Magazine are not meant to be issued and are meant for use inside the library.
  • The loss of library books or borrower’s ID card must be immediately brought to the notice of the Library in charge in writing.
  • Polite and courteous behaviour inside the library is expected from all the users and silence must be observed inside the reading rooms.
  • Use of Mobile phones is strictly prohibited inside the library.
  • Students must follow the Library rules and regulations for availing library facilities and services.

Membership

Library Membership is by default extended to:

  • Faculty (Full time and Visiting) and staff of SCMS- Nagpur
  • BBA students of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies.

Library Services

  • Inter Library Loan (ILL):
    Library arranges to borrow Books that are not available in SCMS Nagpur library on Inter Library Loan from other Symbiosis libraries. This is done on an Institution-to-Institution basis. Such materials will have to be handled with utmost care and returned to the library well on time. This service is provided for academic and research purpose to the faculty, registered students of SCMS Nagpur and staff who are members of the SCMS Nagpur library. Members are requested to send a formal request to the library with complete bibliographic details of Book which can be accessed via the WEB-OPAC.
  • Current Awareness Service (CAS) New Additions of Books:
    Library brings out a monthly list of books added to the collection. This list is sent to the library users over the email.
  • Plagiarism Checking Service:
    Library offers Plagiarism Checking Service using ‘Turnitin’ tool to its registered users. Turnitin is a leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention web tool which allows researchers to compare their contents against the massive databases on the internet, to ensure the work is original before the submission of their works. SIU Central Library has a paid license of this tool and the access has been provided to the SCMSNAG-Library.
    At the moment library provides for checking the Plagiarism for student’s assignment and dissertation as well as to the members of faculty for their research manuscripts upon advance intimation.
  • Document Delivery Service:
    SCMSNAG library provides Document Delivery Service to its registered users. If the required articles or research papers published in the journals is available in the subscribed database, then the SCMSNAG library sends the full text to its users and if the required information access in full text is not available in subscribed database then the SCMSNAG library coordinates with its mother Library to provide its users with the requisite materials.

  • Borrowing Rules:
    • Home Lending Facility is available to the members of the Teaching and Non-Teaching staff and students.
    • The Library book must be returned on or before the last date stamped on the Due Date slip, pasted on the first page of the book.
    • On failure of returning books on due dates a fine of Rs.5/- per day will be charged. A fine of Rs 50/- per day will be charged in case of reference material issued for reading is taken away by the student.
    • Students should use their own library card, and I-Card. The students should not lend their library card, and I-Card to others. If they do they will have to suffer the losses incurred in process of loss, damage, fine etc.
    • Reference Books of biographical/ philosophical general nature can be issued to the student for a week on request
    • A Maximum of 4 books will be issued for 10 days.
    • Students should renew the books on or before due date, a fine of Rs.5/- per book per book per day will be levied.
    • Important topics from Reference Books/Current Issues of Periodicals can be photocopied on request.
    • The Library is authorized to declare/hold certain books as reference material according to the demand. Every book may not be labelled as Reference material.
    • New/Latest issues and back volumes are for reference only.
    • Borrowing period for particular material can shrink according to the demand.
  • Web OPAC:

    Web OPAC is an Online Public Access Catalogue which allows library users avail the services of the library using Internet. Every library member gets the access of Web OPAC where he/she can check his/her circulation history, recommend new book titles to the library, create own reading list of favourite books etc.

    Library members can get the access to all e-resources on library portal. To access these e-resources one should have the login credentials authorised by the institution. Every year newly admitted student is provided the registration by the librarian, for a period equivalent to their course duration.
    Once the registration is completed, members get the access to all e-resources purchased by the SIU Central library. Also, all institutionally subscribed databases, e-books and e-journals can be accessed through this library portal.

    The Shodhganga@INFLIBNET is set-up using an open source digital repository software called DSpace developed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in partnership between Hewlett- Packard (HP). The DSpace uses internationally recognized protocols and interoperability standards. Shodhganga provides a platform for research scholars to deposit their Ph.D. theses and make it available to the entire scholarly community in open access. The repository has the ability to capture, index, store, disseminate and preserve ETDs (Electronic Theses and Dissertations) submitted by the researchers.

FAQs

Who can access the library Services?

Students, Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and Staff of Symbiosis Centre for Management Studies can access the SCMSNAG library services. Also other institute’s users of Symbiosis can refer the books of SCMSNAG Library in the Library Premises only. Identity card is mandatory to enter SCMSNAG library.

Outside users who belong with other colleges’ apart from Symbiosis are allowed to refer the books inside the library premises. These users are requested to bring an official letter duly sign by their Librarian/Head of the Department/Guide/Principal and identity card of their college is mandatory to avail SCMSNAG services.

Can I bring the personal book in the library?

You can carry own books to the library by making necessary entries in Register daily log.

What are the issue return timings in the library?

Over dues, as laid down hereunder, shall be charged from the students if they fail to return the book(s) on or before the deadline as indicated on the Due-Date-Slip in the book:

Fine will be charged including all Sundays and Holidays. Rs.5.00 per book per day shall be charged

I have lost the library Book, what am I required to do?

First you should immediately report to the circulation desk at the library. In case a book/magazine/Journal is lost; the borrower has to replace the same with the latest Edition/Version of the material. If the copy is out of print, then the user has to pay the cost of the material along with the overdue amount of fine within 15 days from the reporting. Please collect the form from Circulation desk for Intimation.

Where can I make a suggestion to the library?

“Suggestion Box” placed at the entrance of the library is where you can drop-in your valuable suggestion(s).

How can I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?

Students can give their recommendations through the E-mail. Mentioning with their Name, PRN No. and submit the request to the Librarian.

How can I access the E-Recourses?

As it is mentioned on the web site under the E-Resources. You can access these databases through the login credentials of SIU Central library Gateway Portal which is been issued to all the registered students of SCMSNAG. Those who do not know the credentials can contact to the library. Only Symbiosis students and faculty can access these databases through their own login credentials.

Note: For the smooth functioning of the Library and for the collective convenience the Head/Librarian holds the power to suspend the use of the Library to the readers who are found negligent regarding any of these rules or who fail to cooperate with the Library staff. Any appeal against any such decision shall be forwarded to the Director, whose decision will be final.

Important notices and information regarding the library as well as changes, if any, will be notified from time to time on the Library Notice Boards.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The above Rules and Regulations are valid till such time as the SCMS Nagpur Library is merged with the Central Library. Post such merger, SIU Central Library Rules and Regulations will apply.
